Beautiful Recipes with Nurlea Laurielle - Spicy prawn and chilli soup



Today's recipe: Spicy prawn and chilli soup


Plump green prawns are freshly cooked in this aromatic stock, boosted by the flavoursome addition of lemon grass, ginger and chillies. Lime juice and lime leaves provide the final touch.

5 cups chicken stock
500g medium-sized green prawns
2 stalks lemon grass
40g fresh root ginger
4 small red chillies
4 limes
3 tablespoons fish sauce
6 kaffir lime leaves
A small bunch of coriander


1. Put the stock on to heat in a large saucepan. Shell and clevein the prawns and put aside.

2. Finely chop the lemon grass. Preel and cut the ginger into julienne strips. Seed and finely slice the chillies. Squeeze the limes and reserve the juice.

3. Add the lemon grass, ginger, chillies, lime juice and fish sauce to the simmering stock. Continue to simmer, over moderately low heat, for 1-2 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, finely shred 2 lime leaves and chop enough coriander to give 2 tablespoons.

5. Add the shredded lime leaves and prawns to the stock and simmer for a further 10 minutes.

6. Pour the soup into a warmed serving bowl, add the remaining lime leaves and serve immediately.

Nutrients per serving: kiljoules 536, protein 18g, carbohydrate 1g (sugar 0.5g), fat 1g (saturated fat 0.2g), good source of vitamin C and iodine.


Right... and this time, lets la u ols kita try soup piular. For variations, u ols boleh tukar from prawns jadik beef ke, skinless chicken breast ke - tapi memang lah suggested nih prawns sebab juice yang kuaq daripada prawns tu kan manis, campur pulak dengan ramuan pedas, HAIYOH! Merembes!!!! Lets la cuba! Selamat la ek... hiks!

Beautiful Recipes with Nurlea Laurielle - Beef Salad



Today's recipe: Beef Salad


Rare lean beef and a variety of crunchy fresh vegetables are combined with the fragrant Asian flavouring of lemon grass, lime and pungent herbs in this main0course salad.

350g crisp lettice leave
185g cucumber
2 medium carrots
125g fresh bean sprouts
1 clove garlic
1 stalk lemon grass
500g lean beef steak
A small bunch of coriander
A small bunch of basil
2 tanspoons vegetable oil
2 limes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce

1. Rinse, dry and shred the lettuce. Dice the cucumber. Peel and coarsely grate the carrots. Rinse and drain the bean sprouts. Arrange all on a large serving dish or on individual entree plates.

2. Peel and crush the garlic. Remove and discard the outer leaves from the lemon grass and chop enough of the inner stalk to give 1 teaspoon. Thinkly slice the beef and put aside.

3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan and gently cook the garlic and lemon grass for about 30 seconds, until just goldn brown.

4. Add the beef to the pan and fry over high heat for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously to keep the slices seperate. Then remove the meat from the pan and place on top of the salad vegetables.

5. Squeeze 2 tablespoons juice from the limes and add to the pan sauce. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute, then pourthe dressing over the beef and salad and serve (approx. 4 pax serving)

Nutrients per serving: kiljoules 1152, protein 29g, carbohydrate 7g (sugar 6g), fat 16g (saturated fat 4g), good source of vitamins A, B group, C, E and folate.



Anything with beef, is definitely good enuff for moi! HIK! Mek suka lah resipi nih. Mek dah buat! Cuma mek ade lah ubah sana sikit sini sikit; u ols also bole tukar² sana siniks, mengikut citarasa serta selera masing² la kan? Macam mek, mek suka the salad to be somewhat, pedas sikit. So pepandai jer la kan. Hiks! Selamat mencuba!

Yes, ANOTHER movie review - Flight Plan


Owh yes, what did I tell ya? Back to back movie review kan? Hiks! Mrasalah kali nih review utk movie FLIGHT PLAN pulak. Hehehehe...


Flying at 40,000 feet in a cavernous, state-of-the-art E-474 aircraft, Kyle Pratt (Foster) faces every mother's worst nightmare when her six-year-old daughter Julia vanishes without a trace mid-flight from Berlin to New York. Already emotionally devastated by the unexpected death of her husband, Kyle desperately struggles to prove her sanity to the disbelieving flight crew and passengers while facing the very real possibility that she may be losing her mind. While neither the plane's Captain Rich (Sean Bean), nor Air Marshal Gene Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) want to doubt the bereaved widow, all evidence indicates that her daughter was never on board resulting in paranoia and doubt among the passengers and crew of the plane. Ok now, nih mek punye review piula... hiks!

Siapa sangka siapa menduga org kacak boleh jadik jahat!?! Nangis!

Movie started off a bit slow, dan banyak campuran aduk present tense and also past tense (everything seemed a lil'bit blurrish sket sebab ala ala semuanya gelap, slow and so... tah? Macam, nak kena nengokkkk bebetul baru la nak paham - tu pun ado jugak yang mek dinch pahamrinas) So ok, story started off pasal Kyle Pratt (Jodie), mother to 6yo Julia, yang baru jer lost her husband yang terjatuh dari building katanya? And lepas dah kes tu, Kyle decided nak bawak Julia balik ke New York (owh yes, they were in Berlin rasenya). Dan nak bawak balik Julia tu pulak, beserta dengan keranda hubbynya itiew, dalam flight E474, ala² a state of the art new plane (which looked somewhat like the new A380 itiew) dan kesahnye Kyle yang designed the engines.

Nih time before take off itiew...

They boarded the plane, seated, dan kalau betul² nengok gaya movie nih started, dah banyak nak menunjukkan bahawa Julia ala² dinch pernah wujud (kononnye nak kelirukan us penonton la kan). And so lepas departed, Kyle fell asleep, dan 3 hours later, woke up, noticed Julia was missing, again (yes, again refers to Julia dah missing dalam airport for like less than 5 minutes?) and thats when Kyle mula jadik gila. Well, mula² tu tak der lah gila sangat, tapi, ala² conviencing lah yang dia persis gil gil bab! Mula la aktiviti searching upside down segala ruang yang ado dalam flight tu, with the help of the Captain (Sean Bean) and also the air marshall si Peter Sarsgaard itiew. The movie nih mek nengok very macam Panic Room whereby Jodie memang gila²punye sayang and will do anything for her daughter. Yeap, dalam movie nih pun, cam tu la kesahnya. Cuma this time, the case berlaku dalam flight.

Kyle Pratt (Jodie) mula sebok naik turun naik turun from main deck ke first floor bagai nak mencari anaknye yang missing itiew...

Pandai lah movie nih dirancang atur, kasik penonton keliru. Banyak sangat adengan/ perkara yang will buatkan kite pikir² dua tiga kali - betul ke Kyle nih ado anaknya on board? Or memang betul as claimed by the captain yang anaknya was never onboard sebab anaknya mati also dengan the husband? Tapi Kyle ade kuarkan statement yang terus yakinkan mek bahawa Julia was onboard the flight "If my daughter is dead, why am I travelling only with my husband's coffin? Where's my daughters coffin?" Something like that la kot. Betul u ols. Very thriller lah jugak cuma bukannye killing² or horror² thriller, cuma macam thriller yang buatkan u ols wondering and asik lah tanye diri u ols mana satu betul mana satu salah.

Mula lah kes lari pi sana sini, carik anak katanya... hehehe...

Mula dari kes semua orang ingat dia nih gila, Kyle banyak buat bende² yang ala ala nak riuh rendahkan the whole flight - released the oxygen masks lah segala bagai. Ade part² yang bebetul tensi nengoknya (bab menjerit gaduh bertekak, jgn cakap lah - most of the time bile part org dah ingat dia nih gila, ha, banyak lah jadik scene² jerit mengamuk bagai nih) tapi itu lah, like I said, kisahnye tak der beza macam Panic Room. Tapi dalam pertengahan movie nih, Jodie ala ala macam tuduh Arab sorang dua dalam flight tu yang kidnapped anaknya. Conviencing again tapi dinch, bukan. Yang mek heran (maybe mek tak dgr clearly kot) macam mana at the end of the movie, orang yang mek tak budget sangat tu yang merupakan dalang paling jaaaahat nih dalam citernih? Hanjeng sangat! Sentap - dan lebih sentap bilemana mek dinch hui ape sebab orang jahat yang mek tak sangka²kan itiew would wanna amik anak Jodie itiew *yes you ols. Julia WAS onboard the flight. Heran sangat kenapa si DIA tu nak amik Julia, dan MACAM MANA boleh pi sembunyik kat avionic area tu... siap amik bag si Julia dan boarding pass segala semua - Yeap, part² nih yang tak terjawab bagi mek dan memaksa mek buat banyak spekulasi. Dan yang teramatlah penting, Julia TETAP tidur the whole time dalam movie nih! Bole?

Antarra babak menariks dalam cerita nih... noticed the galley seemed all white, all pure, all fresh? Hiks!

Overall mek would have to say, very, VERY interesting movie, tapi tetap ade element KELIRU also sampai ke sudah. But I loved the ending bila semuaorang yang tuduh dia nih gila, semua macam muka² bersalahdosa sangat! HAHAH Mek suke sangat! I would give this movie a B+ jer u ols... hiks!

Another movie review - Salaam Namaste


Ok so tak penah² mek nak buat movie review citer Hindustan katanya - but I guess, movie nih terlalu asyik for me to say no. So, nih la dia, review movie Hindustan pertama mek! Hiks! I mean, bukannye I don't fancy movie² Hindustan nih semua - mek suka, Devdas la, Aa Ab Laut Chalen (betul ke mek eja tu? Ala - yang Aishwarya Rai berlakon tu ler... ) dll. Tapi I have to admit, memang dah lama mek dinch nengok citer Hisdustan until semalam sebelum mek tidurans itiew...

Nih mek scanned cover vcd itiew. Mrasalah mek carik banner/ poster utk movie nih online, tapi dinch ad! Hiks!


Ok, so, movie kali nih ialah "Salaam Namaste" lakonan Saif Ali Khan (haiyoh! MEREMBES!!!!) dan also Preity Zinta (memang sehsuai nama dia Preity... memang pretty pon. Now that she dah lost weight, haiyoh! Makin cantik! Dagu dia also melerts u ols! Oppsss!). Citer nih 100% katanya made in Melbourne, Australia (must be one of those big budget movies kot?)

Directed by Siddharth Anand and under the production of Aditya Chopra (nih adik beradik Priyanka Chopra Miss World tu ke?), the movie started off in a very nice way, ala ala flash back past tense on each character/ actorsnye. Cool I'd say. Ok, kalau ikut GAYA mek nak buat review nih, mek mungkin akan buat in detail sampai habis 3 Vcds tu, kan? *tak leh jadik nih - sebab lepas entry nih mek rase nak buat entry movie review pasai Flight Plan piuler... ala ala back to back movie reviews lah kesahnye. Hhahaha. So anyways, mek will try and make this as simple and as short as possible.



Nikhil Arora (Saif Ali Khan yang jerzzz itiew) dinch suka that name. He likes to be called NICK, the cool Nick. Graduated with a degree in Architecture rasenye, tapi dinch suka sebab he loves cooking (ala² straight macho guys who loves cooking - bukan ke selalunye depa nih gibek? Hurmmmm..) - so from an achitect ala² turned into a successful chef la kisahnya nih...

Amber (Preity Zinta) yang asiklah dipanggei HAMBER (sedehhhh boss dinch bols sebut A tapi jadik H - maka jadik lah HAMBER! LOL!) pada mulanya dia dikenalkan sebagai a medical student in Melbourne who works part time as a DJ dekat a local radio station called SALAAM NAMASTE katanya. And she's very der famous lah kirenye sebab... tah (mek pon dinch hui sangat sebab English/ Malay subtitle dalam VCD itiew cam cipet jer; kadang² ado, kadang² nan ado!)

Funny, I didn't remember having seen this part of the movie? Owh - maybe mek skipped kot? Hmmm...


And the two was supposed to meet up kat studio when Amber was supposed to interview Nick tapi kaedahnya Nick woke up late and was late for the interview. Dari kes tu, Amber upset sebab dia dinch suka orang late comers katanya. So oklah - dari sitiew, asik lah depa gaduh over the phone. But they actually met kat a friend's wedding and apparently dua dua ala² lied to each other about their real identities. Owh you guys should watch this part - funny sangat bila part pecah lobang tu! LOL!

Actually nih caption dalam movie itiew, dalam last² part dah nih! Sedeyyy...


Tapi lepas tu, they sort of like, fell in love la kirenye (that figures) and so boom baam boom baam, they moved in together dengan alasan depa nak get to know each other better la kirenya. They rented out a beautiful house - tapi landlordnya, HAZAB! Tapi lawak... with the landlord's wife ala ala hanya tau cakap "SORRY????" and the landlord guy would say "EKJEKLY" (exactly la kirenye)- u ols! SERRIOUSSLY! He said like that tau. At firts it was kindda like irritating la jugak tapi lama², jadik cam.. bodoh sialll... lawak... hahah - cam tu la kaedahnya...

And so these two stayed together, pretending to be hubby and wify lah for some ppl, dan they lived as if like a normal couple would be doin'. Macam happily married gittiew. And yes, anda tidak akan ketinggalan bab bab nyanyi² segala bagai... mek terpaksa fwrdkan part tu... boring...

Owh yes, bermula lah babak bergaduh antara this two lovebirds... hiks!


It looked as if segala²nya so purfect sangat... until... hiks! Amber de Hamber PREGNANT katanya!!! NANGIS! Ape jadik lepas itiew? That Nick terus sentap, jadik separuh gila la bagai semua. Siap suruh buat abortion nih! Impact movie nih bagus la. Sebab from high high happy segala bagai, terus, BOOM! Sedey yaamatz! Dan lepas pada tu, everything went from right to wrong, from happy to sad, from all smiling to crying - haiyoh! MEK TENSI terus nengoknya tapi that feeling nak nengok ape jadik last² tu, tetap ade. Walaupun kita boleh agak apa kesudahan citernya, but still... nak jugak tgk, to reach to the end tu, cam mana kesahnye, kan? Hahah - kalau nak tau macam mana endingnya, mrasalah carik vcd citer Salaam Namaste nih! Best sangat! For me, it's not TOO Indian, and not tooo White sangat. A good combi... like, lifestyle omputih tapi nilai pertuturan in Indian totap ado. Mek suka mek suka! Hiks!

1st day of puasa...


Yes u ols. Idea nih mek dapat tadik waktu bangun dari tidurans itiew. Mek tetiber had this thought nak buat ala² a walk down the memory lane gittiew (eh, bukan ke blog mek nih pun dah ala² memory lane dah? LOL!) So anyways... it's about 1st day of puasa/ berbuka mek dari tahun 2000 sampeilah ke present tensenya sekarang nih. Hiks! Lets!

Year: 2000

1st day of Ramadhan, I was in KL. Sempat lah bersahur dan berbuka in KL/ umah. Tapipun, berbuka kejaps jer sebab I remembered my pickup van for flight datang 10 minutes lepas berbuka. Sayu sangat waktu tu sebab kenyang pon idak - lapaq lagik ado la. Kenalah bawak bekal makan dalam crew shuttle bus dari Subang Airport to KLIA... sedey! Hiks! Tapi naik² je atas flight, melantak sungguh² nih mengalahkan penumpang... hikhikhik!

Year: 2001

2001 seingat² mek, mek bersahur in KL tapi by the time berbuka mek dah di negeri lain, kalau tak KBR (Kota Bharu), musti PEN (Penang) sebab mek ingat pasal MERIAH sangat bab makan waktu tu, cuma tak leh nak ingat was it Gurney Drive or was it Pasar Ramadhan Siti Khadijah... ahaks! Tapi yang pasti, ade sekali tu mek berbuka puasa di KBR, memang mencabar kesabaran mek. Ade ke patut ade sorang mak cik nih, refused to jual nasik dagang (or was it nasik ulam ntah? Either one la) kepada me and my leading stewardess who so happened to have her nails in red and me in my 3/4pants? Bole? Sentap sangat time tu - macam, tak der motif dan tema tau dia tanak jual kat kami. Yang she kept on beleter dalam slang KBR was "Tak leh juai - mung ade kuku merah. Haram, dosa. Mu pulok (tunjuk kat mek) pakai seluar macam perempuan..." something like that la kot. MOTIF!? Terus mek upset berbuka puasa dengan air jer - balik hotel dan ordered room service katanya ngan my leading yang terus removed her red nailpolish itiew. HIKS!

Year: 2002

1st day puasa mek, ermm... japs... owh yes. Bersahur dalam flight, berbuka di... di... was it Brisbane or Perth? Hmmm - apa² pun, totap di Australia! Waktu tu puasa somewhere end of the year kot... and mrasalah Australia tgh summer. NANGIS! Sah sah summer, siangnya panjang bebenor, kan? Seksanye! Hiks! Tapi tak per, tak terasa sangat sebab filled with activities nak buat ie shopping la sightseeing la and etc. And 2002 nih la the month mek banyak bersahur, berpuasa dan berbuka dalam flight or di negara² lain. Sukanye mek time itiew! Hiks!

Year: 2003

1st day puasa mek di KL, di rumah my auntie with Mak Tok around. Best sangat. Tapi mek tiba dirumah itiew like 1/2 late sebab mek baru balik flight. Iniii lah dia kan keje sebagai crew. Sedeh! Instead of askin' the send off transport to hantaq mek balik ke my apartment, mek suruh dia send mek ke umah my auntie (dedekat jugak ngan umah mek) - mrasalah berbuka dalam van itiew katanya, dan sampai jer di rumah auntie mek, NAH!!! THAT'S IT!

Year: 2004

Haaaa ini mek ingat clearly. Sahur DINCH. Puasa 1st day tu, mek ingat asik lah mek tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidur jer. Dan berbuka puasa dengan Volks, Ginger dan Mira di kediaman 301. Hiks, kan Volks? Siap pi pasar ramadhan depan umah Volks nih, beli segala bagai. Hehehe... Missed that!

Year: 2005

Beautiful Recipes with Nurlea Laurielle - Thai Noodle Salad



Today's recipe: Thai Noodle Salad


This easy salad of crisp fresh vegetables and prawns, stirred into simple rice noodles, is accompanied by the sharp taste of chillies and lemon grass to make a cold dish full of hot flavours.

200g snow peas
1 yellow capsicum
200g rice noodles
8 spring onions
250g peeled cooked prawns

For the dressings:
2 stems lemon grass
2 red chillies
7.5cm piece fresh root ginger
A large handful of coriander leaves
2 limes
3 tablespoons sunflower oil
1 tablespoon sesame seed oil
2 tagblespoons soy sauce

1. Put a kettle of water on to boil. Top and tail the snow peas. Put into a saucepan, cover with boiling water, bring back to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Seed the capsicum and slice thinly.

2. Take the snow peas off the heat. Add the capsicum and noodles; leave to stand for 2 minutes, transfer to a colander, rinse and drain.

3. To make the dressing, peel away the outer layers of the lemon grass and slice the stems into chunks. Seed and slice the chillies. Peel and slice the ginger. Chop the coriander. Put them all into a food processor or blender.

4. Squeeze the limes and add their juice with the sunflower and sesame oils and the soy sauce. Blend just long enough to make a think, chunky dressing. Alternatively, chop or grind the dressing ingredients with a pestle and mortar.

5. Trim the spring onions. Cut diagonally into 1-cm pieces and put into a serving bowl. Add the prawns and the noodle mixture, pour in the dressing and toss well

6. Serve the salad accompanied by a bowl of prawn crackers. Serves 4 pax.

Nutrients per serving: kiljoules 2737, protein 21g, carbohydrate 71g (sugar 7g), fat 31g (saturated fat 4g), good source of vitamins B group, C and E.



Yezza u ols! Today's recipe nih selalu mek makan waktu dalam flight MAS dulu, ala² my favorite starter salad. And yes, I know, it is somewhat like a simple recipe, tapi sesuai lah dengan tema pertama segment ini, di hari pertama Bulan Ramadhan. Today salads/ starters.; esok² we'll move on to soup/ main dishes and etc... :) Banyak lagi resipi mek nak sharekan pada semua yang interested. From starters to soups to main dishes, to drinks, cookies, pastries and stuff - a lot more to come! And so, as for now, selamat mencuba the Thai Noodle Salad! Dan selamat berbuka puasa later! Hiks!

How are things with you? Ohh btw congratulation on your six months blogging :) I got this from a friend in the web, have not been very productive lately, too much "storm" in my head... I would also like to wish "Salam Ramadhan Al-Mubarak" and hope this article will colour their fasting month.

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The most beautiful. The favorite.

Green said:

"Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."

Blue interrupted:

"You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."

Yellow chuckled:

"You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun."

Orange started next to blow her trumpet:

"I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you."

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out:

"I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy."

Purple rose up to his full height:

He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey."

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination:

"Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening, thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak:

"You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joinedhands.

The rain continued:

"From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow." And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a Rainbow appears in the sky, to let us remember to appreciate one another.
