Sharing experiences...
Ex-stewardess shares experiences - Taken from THE STAR ONLINE
By K.W. MAK
THE sky is crazy, insists Yvonne Lee. And her book, filled with her life experiences is out to prove that point -through humour, of course.
The Sky is Crazy is Lee’s first publication, which gives readers an insight on some of the wackiest moments involving passengers and the situations that stewardesses encounter that will leave the reader chuckling.
“This is a very Asian perspective on the industry and I felt I needed to be the voice for the industry,” said Lee, a former stewardess turned mother and writer.
And while she puts a disclaimer in her book that it should not be taken as the ultimate representation, it does give people an idea on what it is like to be a cabin crew.

Lee speaking at MPH Mid Valley Megamall recently.
“I wrote it with humour instead of presenting it as a guide or fact because air travel can be madness with long hours and all kinds of neurosis attached,” said Lee.
“Through humour, people can see it the situation in a different light and laugh at themselves and at the system. You need to make the most of a difficult situation to make it bearable.”
Lee hopes that the book will make travellers perceive the cabin crew in a new light, where the stewardess job encompasses a lot more than just standing there and smiling.
“A girl came up to me and asked me if a stewardess is just a glorified waitress. That is a misconception because we have to be ready for a lot of situations ranging from terrorism to medical emergencies.”
“When you are on the ground, you can call the police for help, but in the air, you have no one to rely on but yourself and stewardesses have to be trained to deal with such situations,” she said.
The freelance writer took a year to finish her recently launched book published by Times Editions Marshall Cavendish and is currently on tour to promote her book in Malaysia and Singapore.
Lee currently teaches piano and helps manage her husband’s music school.
The book is available at all major bookstores.
