Cabin Crew: Interview


Just got this e-mail: (mek rase mek dah buat entry something macam nih, kan? But, erm, owh well, apa la sangat buat again - OPS!) Thought that if I were to put the e-mail and its reply as an entry, mek rase mek dapat hit two birds with one stone... :) Cik adik kite nih pon dapat info, dan harap² yang lain² yang interested ke, or ade yang nak ke interview itiew also esok ke ape ke - mrasalah, hope apa yang me reply nih dapat sedikit sebanyak membantu... :)

hi lea, ive always been ur biggest silent reader. i love everything that u write.

well, i hope this isn't too straight forward, i would like you to help me on several matters regarding cabin crew interview. i've been called by airasia to go for an interview tomorrow (tuesday) and i feel so unprepared! they told me to bring a close-up and full body picture, photostated ic, certs etc. that part, DONE!

however, i am so not prepared for the Q&A session that i assume wld probably be going on the same day?

1.ok, let say the interviewer ask me to tell about myself; to what extend should i talk about myself? (you see, im a fresh graduate, therefore i have no experience in these kinda thing)

2. i've read somewhere in ur post that to be able to connect or relate to the company we're planning to work with, we should have at least a bit of general knowledge of the company we're vying for. am i right?

ok. this, i dont know. to what extend. i mean, yes i know whos the chairman, ceo and cfo. is that all? should i know their fleets, no of workers etc?

see. im totally clueless. and i really hope u could help. or probably give me some pointers as i assume we have to ask the best person in the industry eh? and who better, than u. lol its nerve wrecking lah.

Kesahnye... Nak gi interview Air Asia ek esok ek? :) Well, me tannak melalut melalak pepanjang. Just gonna make it short and simple, so that it'll be easier for you to follow/ understand... :)

You said that you have done the 1st part, preparing what is needed for tomorrow's interview i.e. documentation wise. Good. At least you've cleared out that part, and need not to worry. Just my nasihat, letak setempat. Ingat mana letak, jgn sana letak sini letak - esok tu, takdan nak sampai tempat interview, "Alaaa... I tertinggal la itu... " or like "Haiyah! I don't know where I put this ah..." Ha - tak der maknenye nak 'Ala' or 'Haiyah' dah time tu. Prepare awal², letak one place, easy to locate and esok, kuar umah, terus, capai, masuk dalam bag, mrasa! :) *Dan ingat² la - dah nak pi kuar umah utk interview, cari rezeki halal, dan utk support your masa depan, and just for yourself maybe, mungkin utk keluarganye sekali, esok tu, kuar umah pepagi before gi interview tu, Selawat² la sikit², bace² la pa per siket, say a little prayer before you leave the house onwards to the interview venue. And always, kuar rumah, dengan niat nak gi interview utk mencari rezeki, kuar lah dengan kaki kanan... :)

Before I move on to part 2 yang u ols telah pecahkan into 2 questions tu, mrasalah me nak bagi tip siket.
  • Get enough sleep/ rest for the interview.

  • Drink plenty of plain water, better still, air suam. Kang pi minum ais ke ape ke, esok nya buat hilang suara, mrasalah jadik crew cacats tak bersuara, noh? Hiks!

  • Sebelum tido, ensure apa yang nak dipakai tu dah di iron elok². You're going for an interview as a cabin crew for goodness sake! Minat tak? Kalau tak minat, mek nak tanya - MOTIF pegi apply? And if u ols interested, then, take some pride la. Biar orang kata "Gigihnye dia. Dapat pon belom tentu tapi dah beriya² nih" - Well, de farco lah apa diaorang nak cakap. It's your interview - you screw things up, bukan diaorang yang kena. You yang kena. (Motif tetiber mek emo? Hurm... no no - just trying to be firm on this matter). And for guys yang nak gi for the interview as flight steward (stewardee ke - OPS!), kasut, tie, kemeja, seluar - well pressed/ ironed/ polished bla bla bla. Penampilan diri utk esok also penting. Same goes for girls. Tahu dah esok nak make up cemana, nak buat rambut cemana, handbag, kasut, baju, skirt or seluar ke ape ke - siapkan semua siap² esok. You may NEVER know tuptaptuptap terselayas bangun lewat esok, ha - at least, semuanya dah siap. Idok lah last minute baru nak buat, KAN? :)

  • And it's good to practice cakap depan cermin; tgk, cemana facial expression you ols, cemana u ols cakap dengan image u ols tu, camtu la esok nih waktu interview... :) Hurm... apa lagi ek? Ish - tak pendek jugak entry nih! Panjang gak mek melalut. Muahahahaha...
Ok - kembali kepada part 2 yang ada 2 questions tu:

You cakap you're not so prepared for the Q&A session? And you assumed that it'll probably be on the same day? Darling - Q&A, setiap hari setiap stage ado. Erm, kejaps, mek cari dalam archive mek. Mek rasa mek dah buat dah entry pasal nih. Kejaps... ah yes - mrasa go through these 3 entries (just in case if you haven't gone through 'em la kan... )
Pun begitu, untuk menjawab soalan² yang telah dikemukan (without making me look sooo pemalas! LOL!), mek will try and answer these 2 questions.
  1. To what extend should you tell about yourself - hmmm... gal, and the rest, remember, working/ applying work for/ with Air Asia, one must remember; Air Asia, bukan sangat standard dan sangat berprocedure operating bagai. Air Asia (AK) memang dah terkenal dengan jolokkan as a fun loving airline, with happy non-stop excitement while onboard. Diaorang onboard AK, lebih relaxed, lebih bersahaja, dan erm, how should I say, tak formal? So bila AK decides to look for new intakes, diaorang nak cari yang fresh, fun, happy-go-lucky type of ppl, yang spontanious, yang very pleasant katanya, kan? So bila ditanya pasal "Tell me more about yourself", sebolehnye, tak yah la sangat formal citer pasal education background A to Z, dapat degree/ diploma apa ke. Just relax. Bagitahu diaorang pasal education and family background tu, BRIEFLY, and the rest, u cakap la pasal qualities yang u ada yang memenuhi kehendak AK as a very joyful joyful airline katanya... kan? Get what I mean? You don't have to be serious sangat², but that doesn't mean you get to make a complete bone-head out of yourself, citer mende² merapu. Know your limitation. Jgn citer mende yang tak sepatutnye orang tahu, dan jangan hide your best qualities, ie. bring up the issue such as u like entertaining kids/ children. Bagi I la kan, ppl will cair bile diaorang dapat tahu, u adore kids/ children. Tell the interviewers something yang boleh diaorang imagine, what would you do, dalam flight, penuh dengan kids, yang boring dalam long flights etc. Citer, tapi remember, seeloknye, briefly about your background and education and stuffs, and concentrate pasal the good qualities that you have. Study what AK wants, and tell them what they wanna here. PS: Pasal being fresh graduate, with no working experiences and what not - itu, kicik punya hal la u ols. Whats important is how you carry yourself during the interview, not too over confident, not too reserved, tapi macam apa orang kata, just moderately nice... sweet, pleasant and be as fun loving as you can... :)

  2. And secondly about the company's relavant information and what not. Gal, masuk website Air Asia - malam nih saja, go through, browse through, glance through, SCAN through - and if still dok gabra, print - just read bile ade time esok before interview tu. Actually, seingat mek la kan, they all will ask you general qs about the airline/ Air Asia, but kalau u nak tahu, they are more interested to know how you tackle scenario-give questions. They will give you a scenario or a scene onboard the flight ke, during flight ke while on ground ke ape ke, and then, base on what you think is best for the safety of the passenger and the surrounding conditions, WHAT WILL YOU DO? True, you may not be having working experiences, apatah lagi dalam dunia airline, so cemana nak jawab, kan? Common sense, boleh kan? :) Yang about the airline/ Air Asia itself, just know the history of the airline, the board members ke, fleets that they use and will be using, current news, services that they offer - nampak macam banyak, tapi kalau u go through diaorang punye website, sesenang nak book flight, sesenang itu la jugak u leh baca semuanya. Semuanya ade dalam website tu. Trust me.
Dear, and the rest - you guys cakap you guys nervous lah, clueless la itu ini - but it's all in your mind. Trust me, u ols cakap u ols semua can do it - mrasalah boleh. But don't be too confident, biarpun dah menghafal segala info dalam website tu 40 juta kali. Berkali² me katakan. Semuanya nih, bergantung pada luck/ rezeki/ nasib - kalau dah ade tu, u jawab "Ahhhh uuuummmm errrr ahhhh" pon tau tau dapat, dan yang hat jawab bagaikan pemidato negara, tau tau... "Sorry, try again next time"... and terus bunoh diri. HOW? Hehehehe...

Whatever it is, I harap, entry yang sepatutnya pendek nih dah jadik panjang nih, telah/ dapat membantu u (the e-mail sender) and the rest yang interested also. I wish you ever good luck, and success utk interview u ols tu semua esok ya... :) Muahs! Go break a leg! (Well, not literally la kan... LOL!)

To use it, slip it over your head and clip it accordingly. While leaving the aircraft after impact, pull both tags located by the side of your vest, and jump out of the aircraft into the cold sea water with god knows whats underneath it. For those of you who can swim, please swim as hard and as far as you can from the aircraft - swim swim swim! Swim for your life! And for those of you who can't swim, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR FLYING LEE-AIR!!! Tunggu mak nyeh! mek pon tak gherti berenang. Mati la mak!" Sambil selamatkan beg yang penuh dengan tin tin jus nenas.

Tried to apply before (zaman2 muda remaja gitiew)....tapi tak dapat. Depa cakap "sorry...u r overqualified". Siap cakap lagi yang i ni mcm tak leh nak cuci toilet". Hanjeng sesangat!!!! Terus fobia nak gi interview cabin crew lagi.
